Some basic rules of skincare - and you could WIN!

We all know what we should do to look after our skin but sometimes a little reminding helps!

Drink water – 6 – 8 glasses per day
Avoid dehydration – make sure in heat or when exercising that you always have enough hydration on hand
Get enough sleep – or if you battle with insomnia, rest as much as possible
Never go to sleep with any makeup on – never, ever!
Try and sleep on your back if possible – this alleviates your skin being pressed against the pillow
Avoid excessive alcohol – alcohol is extremely dehydrating and regular excessiveness will show in your skin
Avoid too much caffeine
Avoid fatty and sugary foods
Avoid cigarettes
Avoid harsh sunlight
Drink vegetable juices – they are fantastic anti-oxidants
Try and relax (meditate, yoga) as often as possible to avoid being too stressed
Start as young as possible – you are never too young to start looking after your skin. You will be most thankful later on.

  • From as early as I can remember my Mom taught my to be kind to my skin. Apply skin care products gently, use a silk or satin pillowcase, to never, ever, ever go to sleep with makeup on. Sun screen daily and wear a hat if possible, even in winter. Drink lots and lots of water, exoliate with an enzyme product as micro beads can cause superficial damage and look after your skin from the inside too by drinking hydrolyzed collagen.

  • Be active, exercise, walk, get your heart rate up to increase blood circulation. Get fresh air and spend some time outside for Vit D; use sunscreen.
Do hot yoga, sweat, and get that yoga glow.
Be mindful of what you put in your body (eat well, avoid preservatives, processed food) and on your body (avoid chemicals/ in your skincare products, make up etc).
    Stay hydrated.
    Get enough sleep.
Supplements which keep my skin looking good are: camu camu powder (excellent source of vitamin c), collagen powder (from sally ann creed).
    Sanitise your cell phone.
Don’t neglect your neck and chest.
Clean your make up brushes regularly (the beautiful store sells a great product for this)

  • Don’t ever use a product just because it’s hyped up by others. Listen to your skin and its needs and when you find a product that works for you, stick with it. Also, sunscreen is very important, in all seasons not just the warmer ones.

  • The things that have impacted my skin texture and condition the most are AHA peels and Retinol and Tretinoin. Also not smoking and drinking :-)
